Sarpy County has announced that it has received a grant from the Nebraska Game and Parks recreational trail program that will facilitate the construction of a new trail connector. The new trail will connect the Lakewood Village trail system to the West Papio Trail.
The planned Marv Holubar Trail grant was awarded to Sarpy County and will fund the majority of the design and construction. Additional funding will be provided by the City of Bellevue and Sarpy County. The project is expected to be completed in 2013.
The new trail will provide connection from the West Papio trail located north of Highway 370 near 42nd Street to the existing Lakewood Village trail system located south of Highway 370. It provides for a safe crossing under they busy highway.
"We're excited to undertake this new trail," said Dennis Wilson, Sarpy County Engineer. "By developing this connection, it allows cyclists and walkers to access the major trail system in our area safely from neighborhoods south of Highway 370," Wilson continued. He added, "the metro area has great trails and building this connector opens them up further for Sarpy County residents."
