"Come dressed in your finest attire to run over the river and through the mud at the Nebraska Sports Council Mud Run '12. Choose from the 5K, 10K or Mini Mud Run solo pursuit or tether yourself to two friends and compete in the team 5K, 10K Worm Race. Bring your family and friends to watch from the grandstands and witness your mud crawl near the finish line."

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Both the 5k and 10k will feature a mix of running ingredients. Ranging from cross country running, trail running, traditional road racing, creek running, and mud crawling. And to add to the fun of the event we figured we would mix several running obstacles that you, or you and your team will have to navigate.

Starting near the North entrance of the Lancaster Event Center participants will quickly move from paved road to a off-road racing with multiple mini-mud pits and several obstacles including the ginormous slip and slide.

ABOUT THE RACE:

The Mud Run has quickly become a running tradition attracting participants from throughout the Midwest. The spectator friendly 5k and 10k courses feature music, obstacles, a creek crossing, and multiple mud pits. In addition to the 5k and 10k events the race includes a tethered 3-person team division and as always the Mini-Mud Run.

After the race, there will be multiple outdoor shower stations available for the racers to de-mud. Similar to last year, Reinke Manufacturing is setting up a section of center-pivot irrigation system just for you. There will be dozens of shower heads dangling off the pivot section for your cleaning enjoyment.

After getting rid of all the mud, you're welcome to dump your dirty shoes into multiple bins located near the showers. All the shoes left behind will be donated to Green Sneakers, an organization that distributes shoes throughout the world to people in need.

Last but not least, head on inside to Pavillion 1 for all of the post-race festivities, including food, drink, music and awards. Stay as long as you like and enjoy the time spent with good friends, family and other runners.

CHIP TIMING:

The 5k and 10k races will be chip timed. Your chip will be delivered to you at Packet Pickup, and will be retreved after you've made your way through the showers.

AWARDS:

Running awards will be given out to the top three Males and Females and then the top three age group winners at the after party.

Age Groups: 19 & under, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 & Up

Costume Contest: A photo booth will be set up outside Pavilion 1 where participants in costumes will get their photo taken. Once the run has started, judges will choose first, second and third. All the costume contest photos will be posted to Facebook after the event for participants to share with friends and family.

Worm Race: Prizes will be given to the top three winning teams in the 5k and 10k Divisions of the Worm Race (Men, Women and Mixed).
